Well… now I have really opened a can of worms here! Which is winning for you? The subconscious or conscious mind? According to scientists as I learnt via this great interview with Marie Forelo and Dr Cathy Collautt; only 3 percent of our thought processes are actually controlled by the conscious mind. And the key to changing lifelong habits and boost confidence in our abilities is to get the subconscions in line with the conscious mind.
Of course, I have been interested in this stuff for a long time and you can read this little post I wrote on David Lynch here. But, as suggested, the subconscious can be a very powerful influence and if we don’t get specific about our fears of the unknown-our subconscious thoughts about the situation will win every time. Its so easy to slip back into our comfortable habits and go with what our subconscious mind has been programmed to do. I find the act of drawing at times very uncomfortable. I’ve been drawing for years, yet most days I find it a real challenge-but keep doing it to set myself firmly into this new program. I’m regularly checking in with my subconscious and its decided that this path is ok! This is my once weekly sketch for Illustration Friday-with the theme of “Up”. I’ll let you read into this one how you wish.
