This week I have chosen to focus on a writer and illustrator who is now departed, American Edward Gorey. I first stumbled apon his work ”Amphigorey Also” a collection of 15 of his small books last year whilst perusing some books in Polyester bookshop in Melbourne. His Victorian style illustrations are highly amusing and macabrely whimsical, if you can ‘get it’. Some of his characters are a bit Tim Burtonesque, I wonder if Tim was touched at some point by “Goryness” and in writing this, I am also wondering if that was really his real surname?
