I admire Leunig for his ability to comment on Australian culture in all the amazing ways that he does-visually, poetically and philosophically. I stumbled upon this YouTube clip of him speaking at The Wheeler Centre, Melbourne earlier this year.

“The artist must express what is oppressed”, says Leunig. And most important, the artist speaks for the ones who “don’t get a voice”.  He has some interesting things to say about the role of the artist and shares his thoughts on the art scene in general. Those of you who know a bit about this cartoonist’s character already can guess what his thoughts are on that! Whether you agree or disagree, it makes for great listening and raises some interesting points.
